Peanut butter hardens because of its fat and oil constituent. To prevent your new jar of goodness from freezing up, set it in the freezer for at least half an hour to 45 minutes.
By the end of this time, you’ll notice how the fats and oils are settled on top of the jar. Simply scrape the upper layer and dispose them away in your sink.
Put the jar back into the freezer once more and wait for the 45-min. mark. Check if there is still some oil and fats present on the jar then scrape them again. Repeat the process until nothing forms on top of the jar.
This is the best way to prevent peanut butter from hardening, but it doesn’t mean that it will stay as creamy and soft as it were initially. You can never get rid of fats and oils completely. Of course, there are still some trapped in the bottom of the jar that won’t magically rise.
THE BEST WAYS OF MELTING PEANUT BUTTER
Method 1: Using A Microwave
Step 1. Put sufficient amounts of peanut butter in a microwave-safe container.
Step 2. Put container inside the microwave and set it to high. Set the timer of the microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
Step 3. After 30 seconds, pull the container out and check if all the butter has melted. If not, melt again for 30 seconds. Keep doing this while checking at 30 sec. Intervals until all the butter is thoroughly melted.
Method 2: Using The Stove
Step 1. Scoop the amount of peanut butter you need in a saucepan or a non-stick skillet. Flatten the butter around the cookware, so it melts easily.
Step 2. Set the stove to low heat. Monitor the process and occasionally check if it has already liquefied. To avoid separation of the fatty oils from the solids, whisk it lightly. Whisk constantly for 5 to 7 minutes until the butter melts completely.
Method 3: Using A Blender Or Food Processor
This method is perhaps the easiest and most effortless. If you’re doing salad dressings or sauces, you can simply pour peanut butter in and blend it along with the other ingredients.
Step 1. Scoop the amount of peanut butter you need in a blender or food processor. Use a spoon and place the scoops in the bottom of the machine, not on the sides or else, it won’t get processed.
Step 2. Add a little water to the machine. A few tablespoons will do, depending on the amount of the peanut butter you want to melt.
Step 3. Using the pulse mode, blend the butter until it assumes the consistency you want to achieve. Keep pulsing within 5 to 10-second intervals while checking the butter in between the intervals.
Method 4: Using A Ladle And Bowl
Step 1. Put sufficient amounts of peanut butter you need in a mixing bowl.
Step 2. In a saucepan, heat either small or large amounts of water, cream, or milk that you’d like to add to the butter according to the specifications of the recipe you’re making. Heat over medium heat and bring to a boil.
Step 3. Pour the hot liquids to the deep bowl together with the peanut butter. Whisk immediately until the peanut butter liquefies and combines gracefully with the hot liquids.

- 3-4 cups roasted peanuts
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1-3 tsp peanut oil (optional)
- 1tbsp.kosher salt
- Step 1. Pour peanuts, honey, and salt into a food processor or blender and then process. Instead of sugar, honey is the best alternative because it’s good for the health and it adds creaminess to the peanut butter.
