Best Iced Tea Maker

Perhaps my love for iced tea is influenced by my mom back then. My mom does it the old way - she’d always boil a lot of green tea bags and let it steep for hours then she adds sugar syrup, lemon juice, and ice cubes for the finishing touches before serving it to us together with our afternoon snack.

My sister and I can finish a pitcher of it in one sitting! Nowadays, I still try to follow the traditional way of making iced tea when I have time during weekends. But like I told you, I love it so much that I’d crave for it every day so when I first heard people making so much fuss about iced tea makers, I decided to check them out.

Oh, I still remember the joy I felt when I was unboxing my first iced tea maker and making my own iced tea. That machine was one of the bests ever created, and I’m extremely thankful for it!

Until one day, it broke down. That period was the start of my quest for the best iced tea maker in the market. We tried every iced tea maker in Walmart and also asked other people’s feedback.

Before I present to you our carefully curated list of the best iced tea makers, here are some useful features that can help you in choosing a good iced tea maker.

A Buyer’s Guide to Choosing an Iced Tea Maker

You’ll be confused by the large array of iced tea makers in the market, so it’s important to know what features makes a good iced tea maker first before anything else.

Best Iced Tea Maker

1. Type of iced tea maker

There are two types of iced tea maker – the manual and the electric. The manual type relies on human strength to do the work. It doesn’t need a power source to operate too.

In contrast, the electric type can be left on itself to brew tea. A basic electric iced tea maker has a timer and different brewing modes.

2. Brewing capacity

The first consideration you need to factor in is the amount of tea you need to brew in a regular basis. If you’re just on your own, you can opt for a small iced tea maker, but if you’re a family of four to five members, a large iced tea maker is needed. Likewise, opt for the largest machine for commercial purposes.

There are also makers designed to brew one glass at a time, and there are those which can fill a liter in one brewing. Also, you need to consider your counter top space for choosing when choosing the size of the machine.

3. Ease of usage

Nobody wants to wrestle and waste time figuring out how to use an iced tea maker. A good iced tea maker should have digital controls for easy operation. The LCD display should also be big enough, and it should also flash the timer and the clock.

Most importantly, a reliable iced tea maker is programmable. The machine should feature several options such as “keep warm”, “auto-off”, and a pre-set mode where you can program the machine to brew the contents at a later time. These features allow for a convenient and hassle-free brewing.

Cleaning an Iced Tea Maker

Cleaning an iced tea maker is very much the same as tidying up a coffee maker. An electric iced tea brewer can get stained and dirty over time, especially the chambers and reservoirs. That’s why you need to clean it at least once a month.

Check out this video below on how to safely clean your iced tea maker using vinegar.

Now that you know what specific features to look for in an iced tea maker and how to clean it safely, it’s now time to choose the best iced tea maker in the market. You ready?

1. Mr. Coffee 2-Quart Iced Tea Maker

The Mr. Coffee Iced Tea Maker is of the electric type. The set includes a water reservoir, a pitcher with a lid, and a steeping basket inside the pitcher.

To use the machine, simply fill the pitcher with water up to the bottom line and pour it into the reservoir. Then grab the pitcher again and fill it with ice up to the second line. Likewise, fill the brew basket with either loose or bagged tea plus sugar if you want.

Attach the pitcher to the right side of the machine and turn the machine on. After around 15 minutes, brewed tea drips from the basket and into the pitcher. As easy as that!

What we love about the pitcher is that it has fill lines for water and ice so that we’re guided as to how much of each ingredient to put which we find very helpful and convenient. Also, the machine is very easy to operate – with just an on/off and a fast brew option.

A tip: Lay the tea bags (if you’re using bags) flatly into the basket, so it’s completely immersed during the entire process. Also, put the pitcher right under the snout to prevent leakage.

PROS

  • Makes iced tea fast
  • Easy to operate
  • Large brewing capacity
  • The pitcher has fill lines as a guide
  • Easy to clean
  • Compact

CONS

  • The water reservoir is smaller compared to what the pitcher can hold
  • Flimsy pitcher

The manually-operated Takeya Iced Tea Maker holds 2 quarts of liquid and makes eight servings in just one brewing.

This wonderful tea infuser is a breeze to use. Just boil a quart of water and pour it into the pitcher then put loose tea or tea bags inside the infuser then simply insert the infuser into the pitcher and wait for it to steep for 5-7 minutes depending on the type of tea.

After the designated time, remove the infuser from the pitcher then add ice. Screw the lid and shake for 30 seconds for a quick chill.

We specifically chose this product because of its unique long-brew cup that’s quite rare to find as most makers only have top-loading infusers.

The long cup almost reaches the bottom thus a stronger brew at the bottom half which is quite nice if you’re into strong-flavored iced tea. It also provides extra space for expanding tea leaves, letting the tea seep better than those with smaller cups.

PROS

  • Makes iced tea fast
  • Large brewing capacity
  • Long brew cup
  • The pitcher is durable enough to handle boiling water
  • Water-tight pitcher seal

CONS

  • Not compact; cannot stand upright in most freezers
  • The plastic pitcher stains easily

3. Back to Basics Iced Tea Make

The electric 2.5- Quart Back to Basics Iced Tea Maker can brew both loose tea and tea bags fast.

Like most electric iced tea makers, this machine has a water reservoir with a brew basket inside where the liquid extracts come from. Just put the tea in the brew basket and fill the reservoir up to the designated limit then start brewing.

The upper part of the machine also has a switch where you can adjust the brewing strength. The tea extract then flows down the wide-nosed pitcher in just 10 minutes.

PROS

  • Makes iced tea fast
  • Easy to operate
  • Large brewing capacity
  • The baskets aren’t easy to stain
  • Easy to clean

CONS

  • The machine lack fill lines; it’s hard to approximate the amount of water to pour in
  • The pitcher is too big; hard to fit inside the refrigerator
  • Flimsy plastic machine
  • The sweetener basket doesn’t dissolve all the sugar

4. Mr. Coffee 2-in-1 Iced Tea Brewing System

This 2-in-1 Machine is a higher-end version of the first product on our list from the same brand. It has a sleek black color, and it can brew up to 2.5 quarts – relatively larger than its older brother.

Also, this wonderful maker is a high-tech one. It features a brew strength selector which allows you to choose the boldness of your tea. It also had indicator lights for on/off and an auto-shut off as soon as it’s done brewing. Talk about energy conservation, huh?

To use this one, open the lid and fill the basket will loose leaves or tea bag. Then, flip the upper half sideways to reveal the water reservoir where the water goes.

Fill it up according to the volume you desire – the presence of fill lines on the exterior of the reservoir makes approximating water easier. Afterward, place your half-filled pitcher under the upper half’s snout, adjust the brewing strength’s switch, and start brewing.

After it’s done brewing for a few minutes, add ice to the pitcher (up to the fill line). Voila! A refreshing pitcher of iced tea in minutes!

PROS

  • Makes iced tea fast
  • Easy to operate
  • Large brewing capacity
  • The machine has fill lines as a guide
  • The baskets aren’t easy to stain
  • Easy to clean

CONS

  • Loose tea scatters in the basket after use (hard to clean the area)
  • The sweetener basket doesn’t dissolve all the sugar

The gorgeous-looking West Bend Iced Tea Maker is a big boy with a lot of advanced options for the lazy American.

It can hold up to 2.75 Quarts of liquid, has a removable sweetener chamber, on/off indicator lights, an auto shut-off mode, and a brew strength selector. What more are you looking for?

To use this terrific maker, just fill the brew cup with loose or bagged tea and choose how strong or light you want the brew to be. You can also put sugar in a separate basket inside the machine.

Nice enough, there are fill lines etched into the baskets, so you’ll know how much you need to put in. The extract then drips down into the snout right through the pitcher without the lid. Just add ice and you’re good to go!

PROS

  • Makes iced tea fast
  • Easy to operate
  • Large brewing capacity
  • The machine has fill lines as a guide
  • The baskets aren’t easy to stain
  • Easy to clean

CONS

  • The sweetener basket doesn’t dissolve all the sugar
  • The space for pouring water is too narrow; water tends to splatter
  • The pitcher’s lid isn’t water-tight

The Verdict

Clearly, the winner of our round-up review is the Mr. Coffee 2-in-1 Iced Tea Brewing System. It’s super easy to operate, and it has fill lines for water and ice which is very convenient for users. Aside from the ease of operation it offers, it has a large brewing capacity which can definitely serve a big family.

Using this special machine is a breeze too. There are indicator lights that tells you the tea is ready, you can select how strong you want your tea to taste with its strength selector, and it also shuts off automatically after brewing is finished which is another plus for energy conservation.

The only con of this ice tea maker is it cannot dissolve all sugar in the sweetener chamber, leaving blocks of sticky sugar in the basket. Almost all other electric makers we have reviewed also has the same con so I think manufacturers should note this feature for improvement.
